Iberdrola Chair

Iberdrola Chair for the Sustainable Development Goals. At itdUPM, we have been collaborating steadily with Iberdrola since 2014. That year, the company and the Polytechnic University of Madrid created the Chair for the Universalization of Basic Energy Services, and over the following two years, they developed a series of activities aimed at consolidating a university-business relationship model capable of addressing the challenges of the international development agenda.

Following the approval of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, this chair was renamed the Iberdrola-UPM Chair for the SDGs, thus orienting its activity towards contributing to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda. This collaboration is thus configured as a space for shared learning and support for the implementation of the SDGs at Iberdrola, with the following main initiatives being developed:

Systematization of experiences and learning about collaborative initiatives.

Ethics and artificial intelligence.

Decarbonization of industrial thermal demand.

Involvement of students in applied research.

In 2014, the Shire Alliance was created, the first multi-stakeholder alliance in the humanitarian field promoted by Spanish cooperation. It promotes energy solutions that improve services and quality of life for residents in refugee camps in Ethiopia. www.alianzashire.org

Ibero-American Conference
During 2018, the Ibero-American Conference on Sustainable Development Goals was held in Salamanca. The conference brought together more than 400 participants, including 50 internationally renowned experts, analysts, and activists. More information.

ODSeína
ODSeína is a metaphor developed to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is an accelerator for achieving them. It is presented as a “treatment” or “pill” that must be taken daily to achieve sustainable development, with 17 tablets representing the different SDG targets and indicators, promoting innovation and collaboration. Acelera 2030
In 2019, Acelera 2030 was held, a conference that called for accelerated action on the 2030 Agenda and its challenges. El Día Después
In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, El Día Después emerged as a space for collective reflection on the future of society in the face of the crisis. What began with seminars and dialogues later evolved into a multi-stakeholder project incubator, giving rise to initiatives such as citiES 2030 and the Green Employment Platform. Today, El Día Después is an independent and pluralistic association, made up of individuals and organizations working together to build the social fabric needed to face complex challenges. www.diadespues.org

The ethics and digital revolution line
In 2020, the Ethics and Digital Revolution Line was created, initially as an interdisciplinary forum to interpret the challenges of digital transformation from the perspective of ethics, human rights, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Today, this line works on governance and responsible development applied to generative artificial intelligence in customer service environments. Más información.

We are jointly launching the first edition of the Iberdrola CONVIVE Awards, which will recognize and raise awareness of initiatives in Spain that promote renewable energy in harmony with socioeconomic development and nature. More information.

In 2024, the Q-Cero Alliance was formed, an open multi-stakeholder alliance created with the aim of advancing the promotion of decarbonization of thermal energy demand in Spain. To date, it has more than 130 members from different industry sectors. www.alianzaqcero.es
