On Thursday 30 November, the itdUPM Centre for Innovation in Technology for Development hosted the inaugural session of the itdSTUDIO programme. As a pilot initiative, the main objective of this programme is to facilitate the collaborative supervision of final degree projects.
itdSTUDIO is the result of a collaboration between itdUPM and Porticus, with the aim of integrating participatory and just transition approaches into teaching and research. We started this process by focusing on the intersection of both fields, specifically on Bachelor’s and Master’s degree projects. In this first edition, the aim is to establish a community of young researchers involving 15 UPM bachelor and master students from different degrees.
The programme seeks to encourage cross-learning between students, researchers and professionals, thus enriching the process of preparing Final Degree Projects. The group supervision of these projects aims to increase the supply of this type of work at the UPM, fostering a transformative experience.
This pilot program, coordinated by professors Javier Mazorra and Jaime Moreno from the UPM Department of Organizational Engineering, is inspired by similar initiatives that have demonstrated their transformative potential, such as City Studio. Throughout workshops and interactive sessions, itdSTUDIO will address technical aspects such as the just transition, ethical dilemmas, multi-actor collaboration and systemic vision.
Sessions to facilitate the development of the TFTs will be held in the near future, focusing on methodological aspects, recommendations among students and communication skills. Interaction between participants will be encouraged in all sessions and will require students’ commitment to make the most of this experience.
