itdUPM Space

The building where we are located is a space open to the entire university community, and its collaborative design and construction process has received several awards. The itdUPM building is an open, interdisciplinary, and stimulating space, aimed at the entire university community—particularly its students—and designed to connect the academic community with companies, public institutions, international organizations, NGOs, and citizen groups. It is a place where we aim to experiment and learn how to generate change toward a more sustainable society, through rigorous,

high-quality technology-based research and collaboration with other organizations. For this reason, it hosts weekly dialogues, training activities, and workshops with other organizations. Furthermore, since its inauguration, the itdUPM building has been researching and testing technological prototypes that pursue positive social, economic, and environmental impacts: bioclimatic architecture, urban agriculture, and alternative construction materials are some of the ongoing experiments monitored in real time by a network of sensors.

We look forward to seeing you!

The itdUPM building has received an award at the 2016 World Green Infrastructure Congress held in Bogotá, Colombia, for its bioclimatic architectural design project that explores the experimental use of urban agriculture.

She also received the first prize for urban agriculture and naturalization (in the academic category) from the Agrarian Forum for her proposal to expand urban agriculture applications at the Moncloa International Campus of Excellence.

The building’s collaborative design and construction process has been recognized as a Best Practice for a Sustainable Campus, included in the “Educating for Sustainability. Best Practice Report,” published by the International Sustainable Campus Network, of which UPM is a member.
