The European URBREATH project, which we have been working on for a year, is innovating collaborative models for the design of natural itineraries in 9 European cities, including Madrid. Here, with Villaverde as the epicentre, the project brings together entities such as Basurama, Dark Matter Labs, Traza and itdUPM, collaborating to address local challenges and turn the district into a benchmark for urban regeneration and climate adaptation.
The current crises – climate, biodiversity, resources, housing and institutional trust – require us to rethink our cities and the way we work. There is no time or resources for partial, sectoral solutions. It is essential to integrate diverse perspectives, harness technology and strengthen public-civic-private collaboration, working in harmony with nature.
In October the first general assembly of the project took place. During 3 days more than 150 people, including European partners and municipal staff, shared reflections and collaborative work in La Nave. We took advantage of these days to develop a series of videos highlighting the perspectives and aspirations of this project.
