Objective
The Pathfinder Initiative is an international collaboration led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), backed by the Wellcome Trust and supported by the Oak Foundation, which aims to accelerate a just transition to a healthy, net-zero future. To this end, it focuses on generating evidence to guide policies and actions that simultaneously benefit the climate and health. In its first phase, Pathfinder compiled and synthesized scientific evidence on the health benefits of climate mitigation actions in sectors such as energy, transportation, and food, identifying the interventions with the greatest transformative potential.
Our role
UPM, through itdUPM, actively contributes to the design, implementation, and evaluation of climate mitigation actions with co-benefits for health in European cities. Our work focuses on supporting the cities of the EU Cities Mission that are part of the Spanish platform citiES 2030 through the comparative analysis of indicator frameworks, the identification of gaps in monitoring systems, and the evaluation of the availability and acceptability of key data by local governments. We also facilitate participatory processes with Spanish cities, such as interviews, workshops, and technical meetings, to identify relevant health data, define context-appropriate evaluation methodologies, and co-design practical recommendations.
